How many of you always have the best of intentions when making your new year's resolutions to become more active but can never make it stick? If this sounds like you, don’t worry you're not alone! Get inspired with this next story.
Meet Rahaf Khatib, a 6x marathon runner and 2x triathlete who is making history. Rahaf is gracing the October cover of Women’s Running magazine! This will mark the first time a Muslim woman wearing a hijab will appear on a US fitness magazine.
Khatib, a 32-year-old stay at home mom of 3 started running in 2012 to challenge herself. She signed up for a local 10K race that her son’s school was participating in, and just like that she was hooked!
Rahaf wants other covered women to feel confident in stepping outside of their comfort zone and joining the running community she describes as very welcoming and friendly. “I hope to inspire other Hijabi and stay at home moms to get out there. I hope to see major fitness retailers (Hello Nike!) represent us covered sisters in their ads and cater to our modest fitness needs.”, Khatib tells us in her blog. Until then Rahaf has become involved with Veil, an innovative company that makes modest sports apparel for women.
Rahaf hopes to defy stereotypes and change the way Muslim women are perceived in western culture. Follow Rahaf’s journey on Instagram and get inspired - @RunLikeAHijabi.
