Meet Noor Wazwaz: Another Hijabi Journalist
In recent weeks you've probably heard about what some think is a controversial move by Noor Tagouri to appear on the cover of Playboy Magazine. We’re here to tell you about another Noor quietly making big waves in the journalism word, Noor Wazwaz.
In the final year of her undergraduate degree, Noor switched from a psychology major to pursue here dream of becoming a journalist. She now holds a Masters in Journalism with a specialization in national security. She was told by many that she would never have a successful career as a journalist because of her identity as an Arab and Muslim.
Noor defied the naysayers and has been published nationally many times over. Her work has been featured in The Huffington Post, VICE News, and much more. Her career has taken her across the globe to Guantanamo Bay, Istanbul, Jerusalem and the West Bank. In 2015, she was awarded a scholarship by the White House Correspondents' Association and attended the White House Correspondents dinner.
Perhaps her most notable interview is with singer/actor Tyrese Gibson. After sending him a heartfelt letter Noor was amazed when he publicly wrote her back on his Facebook page and invited her to his home in Los Angelas for an exclusive interview. Check out the post here.
Noor wants to continue reporting on international locations, not only in times of war and devastation. She hopes to offer a different perspective on issues that is not currently heard in mainstream media today.
Keep up the good work Noor!
Stay Humble,
Yusra S
